3. AI-Powered Sleep Analysis
SleepQ uses third-party artificial intelligence services to analyze your sleep data and generate personalized insights, summaries, and recommendations. We want to be transparent about how this works.
A. AI Service Providers
To generate AI-powered insights, SleepQ sends sleep-related data from Apple Health to the following third-party AI providers:
- OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.) — used to generate sleep insights, summaries, and recommendations through its API
- xAI (X.AI Corp., operator of the Grok models) — used to generate sleep insights, summaries, and recommendations through its API
We may route requests to one or more of these providers depending on availability, performance, or the type of analysis requested.
B. What Data Is Sent
When you request or receive AI-generated insights, we may transmit:
- Sleep duration, time in bed, and sleep stages
- Heart rate data associated with sleep periods
- Other sleep-related metrics you have authorized through Apple Health
- Aggregated trends derived from your historical sleep data
We do not send your name, email address, Apple Health identifiers, or other directly identifying information to these AI providers along with your sleep data. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
C. How Providers Handle Your Data
We use the commercial APIs of OpenAI and xAI under their standard API terms, which include the following protections:
- No training on your data. OpenAI and xAI state that data submitted through their APIs is not used to train their models by default.
- Limited retention. API providers may temporarily retain submitted data for abuse monitoring and safety review (typically up to 30 days for OpenAI), after which it is deleted. xAI's retention practices are governed by its API terms.
- No advertising use. Data sent to these providers is not used for advertising or marketing.
Your data is governed by each provider's privacy practices while in their possession. You can review them here:
D. Automated Decision-Making
The insights, scores, and recommendations generated by SleepQ are produced by AI models and are intended as informational guidance only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and SleepQ is not a medical device. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies.
